Denis BATAILLON

PhD in Quantitative Geosciences from Institut Français du Pétrole and Paris-7 University. Senior Reservoir Geologist and Geomodeller (Petrel and Gocad-Skua) with reservoir engineering background. 20 years of experience gained in North and West Africa, Caspian and Asia on small to giant clastic and carbonate fields. Worked with various operators (Perenco, BP, ENI and Geopetrol) and geosciences software company (Emmerson-Paradigm). Extensive expertise in geological interpretation, 2D/3D integrated geomodelling, hydrocarbon volume assessment, uncertainty analysis and new well target proposal.

André COAJOU

Has over 35 years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry, mainly with ELF and for over half of that time his focus was Africa. As VP Africa Exploration, during the period 1987-1993, he was instrumental in positioning ELF in the deep offshore exploration of the Gulf of Guinea leading to the giant discoveries in Angola (Girasol, Dalia…) and in Nigeria (Bonga, Usan…). He was also involved in several other large discoveries (Amenan in Nigeria, Cobo-Pambi in Angola, Nkossa in Congo) and in the development of complex fields which needed multidisciplinary work. In 1993 he became Elf VP for New Ventures and negotiations, successfully establishing the company in a number of new areas such as Azerbaijan (Shak Deniz) and Trinidad & Tobago. He retired from ELF in 2001, having spent his last 3 years as VP Asia Pacific in Singapore. Since then, he is an adviser to start ups, national oil companies and to banks. He also gives lectures and is a moderator and/or speaker at international conferences. Andre is a graduate of St.

William GRAS

undeMaster degree in geosciences from ENSG, Nancy, William has worked 12 years in Total. He started with CCUS topics before working as a reservoir engineer with either a global focus on data (reserve certification, gas strategy, long term plan and reserves exercises) or dedicated studies (Congo, Brasil). Then William moved to a in house consulting position, mainly on change.
Since 2019, William is fully involved in raising awareness about planetary boundaries and at first, climate change. His audience goes from citizens to high states officials, private equity and companies (top and bottom). He helps leaders conducting change in their companies and through their stakeholde. William makes people independant at both strategy and operational scale by making them rstand what carbon neutrality means and what is the responsability split between the different stakeholders.

Philippe LABAT

Born in 1953, graduated engineer from Ecole Polytechnique Paris (73) and ENSPM (77). He has 25 years of experience as a production engineer and operations manager of oil producing companies. He has a wide experience of artificial lift, water injection and production operations. He developed a good experience of money-making with small to medium size oilfields (1 000 to 10 000 barrels a day), staff management including recruitment, training and termination, health safety and environment. He also has a good knowledge of oil contracts (production sharing, joint operating agreements) and economics (assets evaluation, purchase and sales).

Dominique LAURIER

Graduated from Paris University (DEA métallogénie 1969) and ENSPM (Geology 1971), worked 37 years at Total E&P with a large focus in basin exploration, sedimentology, laboratory techniques, R&D and international management. He spent 20 years as expatriate; in Indonesia (Balikpapan 1974-77), China as chief geologist (Zhangjiang 1981-84), Venezuela as head of cooperation team seconded to Corpoven (Puerto la Cruz 1985-87), Syria as exploration manager (Damascus 1988-91), Bolivia as subsidiary general manager (Santa Cruz 1997-2000) and Qatar as manager of Total Research Center in Doha (2006-2009). Involved in laboratory various technical positions (1977-1981, 1984-85, 1991-1993) he became director of Total CST (Beauplan 1993-1997). After merge with Elf-Aquitaine he worked one year at IFP international division (GERTH) as program coordinator for EU project financing (Joule-Thermie). Then he was named deputy manager for R&D planning at CSTJF in Pau (2001-2003), and later on deputy geosciences manager (2003-2006) at CSTJF. Retired in 2009 he joined Beicip-Franlab for 6 years as deputy technical business manager, assigned on prospecting and development for consultancy projects, mainly in Middle East and South America. From 2019 to 2022 he worked as consultant with CVA Engineering (2002-2002) involved on M.O. field management planning. Greatly involved in professional associations (AFTP, EAGE, SGF, EVOLEN, ASPO France), fluent in English and Spanish, written and spoken.

Laurent NICOLAS

He is currently Head of Assets and Planning at the company Lithium de France, which is developing a deep geothermal and lithium extraction project. He is an engineer from the Ecole Polytechnique and the French Institute of Petroleum (reservoir engineering) and has more than 25 years of experience in the gas industry in upstream, infrastructure management, and trading.

Specialized in the implementation and monitoring of evaluation and certification processes for hydrocarbon resources and reserves, geothermal energy, and some minerals such as lithium present in brines extracted from deep geological formations, he organizes and promotes exploration, development, and production projects of the companies in the petroleum and deep geothermal industries. He builds strategies for optimizing project portfolios in an uncertain environment (identification of acquisition and disposal opportunities) and defends the economic valuations of these assets with public or private investors, banks and organizations that support the development of new energy resources.

Patrick PORTOLANO

Born in 1956, graduated from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (1979) and Newcastle University ( UK ), he worked for 5 years in reservoir engineering and reserve evaluation at FRANLAB (now BECIP-FRANLAB) in Sophia Antipolis (France) and Houston (Texas). He founded EOSYS in 1993, a geosciences and seismic survey company based in Paris, and has managed it since then. To reservoir engineering and reservoir modeling, he has added specializations in 3D geological modeling, seismic acquisition, processing and interpretation, satellite and aerial image processing and interpretation. He has worked for most of the major industrial French Corporations as well as a number of IOC and NOC in Europe, Africa, Middle East and America. His current focus is in prospect and reserve appraisals as well as in assisting or participating with private investors to secure new exploration and production permits.
